Obituary

Mrs. Barbara Ann Sherling McDevitt, age 76, of Barnesville passed away on Wednesday, August 4, 2010 in an Atlanta Healthcare Facility. A native of Macon, Mrs. McDevitt had made her home in Lamar County for a number of years. Daughter of the late Mr. James Edwin Sherling and the late Mrs. Eleanor Kennington Sherling, Mrs. McDevitt attended Mt. DeSales High School, and was a Graduate of Miller High School in Macon. She Retired as a Medical Transcriptionist after 30 years with The Department of Veterans Affairs. Mrs. McDevitt was a member of Saint Peter the Rock Catholic Church in The Rock, GA.


Survivors include: Her Husband - Mr. Thomas McDevitt of Barnesville ; 2 Daughters - Kathleen Cherry (& William S., III) of Barnesville, & Maureen Harden (& Charles) of Pensacola, FL ; 4 Grandchildren - Rachael Cherry, William S. Cherry, IV, Martin Thomas, & Christopher Harden ; 2 Great Grandchildren - Aadyn Watson & Lily Marie Watson ; 2 Brothers - James Sherling & Emmett Sherling ; 4 Sisters - Eleanor Chestnut, Meta Davis, Margaret Riggins, & Dorothy Cammerio ; Numerous Cousins, Nieces, & Nephews also survive.


A Funeral Mass will be conducted for Mrs. Barbara McDevitt on Friday, August 6, 2010 at 11 O'Clock in the St. Peter the Rock Catholic Church in The Rock, GA with Father Neil Herlihy and Deacon T. C. Meuninck officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends for Visitation and Rosary at the Williams Funeral Home on Thursday, August 5, 2010 from 6pm until 8pm.


In lieu of flowers, the family requests that Memorial Contributions be made to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Home, or to St. Peter the Rock Catholic Church Building Fund.
