Mr. Bennie Frank Mathis, age 86, of Jackson, passed away Monday, September 30, 2013 at Atlanta VA Medical Center. He was born on March 7, 1927 in Monroe, GA to the late Frank Mathis and the late Cora McDaniel Mathis. He was preceded in death by 4 brothers and 1 sister. Mr. Mathis served in the U.S. Navy in World War II and Korea. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren.

Mr. Mathis is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Margaret Maffett Mathis; daughter, Carol Reeves; sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Angie Mathis and David and Shirley Mathis, all of Jackson; sisters, Lorene, Leola and Eddie; 5 grandchildren, Vanessa, Michael, Michelle, Misty, and D.J.; 8 great-grandchildren, Logan, Madalyn, Ansley, Miriah, Michon, McKenzie, Collin, and Kristen; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Bennie Mathis will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 4, 2013 at Sherrell Memorial Chapel with Rev. Lane Sanders officiating. Interment will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the Hill Haven Memory Gardens in Monroe, GA. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 – 9 p.m. Thursday evening.
