Obituary

Ms. Birdie Antionette Harris Gordy , age, 92 of Macon, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.


Birdie was born on Tuesday, May 2, 1933, in Thomaston, Georgia to the late Flourney Harris and the late Bertha Banks Harris. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Arnold "Harry" Harrison Gordy, sister, Janie Waller, Ruby Wheeless, brothers, William Harris, Edgar Harris.


Birdie was a native of Upson County. She graduated from R.E. Lee Institute in 1950. She began working as a sectary to the administrator of Upson Regional Medical Center while it was being built. She was the first employee to be hired while the hospital was under construction. She recorded minutes for medical staff meetings and compiled statements for medical research. Two years later she was promoted to Medical Records Libarian there and served in that position for 23 years. In 1974 her family moved to Macon, Georgia due to husband's employment. She was employed at MCCG in Medical Records for two years and later by Georgia Academy for the Blind for 20 years, as secretary to the Academic Supervisor.


Birdie was a member of LDBC, Ruth SS Class, WMU, Agape Seniors, Heirloom Widows Group, Retired Peoplecon Mission, and served as Church Clerk.


Birdie is survived by her son, Tim Gordy (Lori), grandson; Wayne Gunter; sister, Gladys Chancey. Several nieces, nephews and extended family.


In lieu of flowers, the family has requested to make a donation in Memory of Birdie Antionette Gordy to American Heart Association or American Cancer Society.


A Funeral Service for Ms. Birdie Antionette Gordy will be held on Monday, March 9, 2026, at 2:00 P.M. at Williams-Westbury Funeral Home, with Reverend David Chancey officiating. Interment will follow at Valley Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Thomaston, Georgia. Friends may visit the family on Monday, March 9, 2026, from 1:00P.M. until 2:00 P.M. at the Funeral Home.
