TSgt David Andrew Hicks, Jr., Air National Guard (Ret.), age 69, of Locust Grove, passed away Tuesday, October 23, 2018, at his residence. He was born Friday, October 7, 1949, in Atlanta, son of the late David Andrew Hicks, Sr. and the late Marjorie O'Dell Womack Hicks. David was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and retired from the Georgia Air National Guard with 24 years of service where he worked as an aircraft mechanic for the APG 116 Tactical Fighter Wing. He was formerly a heavy vehicle diesel master mechanic at Site E in Dekalb County for 11 years, a Tech 4 Technician at Ryder Transportation Services, and former owner of Chevron USA. David was also formerly employed as the lead technician at PYA Monarch Food Services and diesel technician at Roadway Express. He was very outgoing and a hard-working man. David enjoyed working in the yard and landscaping. He loved reading and was a Baptist.
David is survived by his wife, Betty Nell Hicks of Locust Grove; children, Eddie Hicks, James Hicks, Brandie Lowery (Jason) of Deatsville, AL, Dexter Underwood (Beth) of Griffin, Rachel Hunt (Chris) of Locust Grove, Rodney Underwood (Angie) of Williamson, And Angela Moseley (Spencer) of Meansville; 22 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Charlie Hicks (Judy) of Milner, Shirley Akins (Terry) of Griffin, Roger Hicks (Kimberly) of Riverdale, and Diane Hicks; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for TSgt David Andrew Hicks, Jr. will be held Saturday, October 26, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Sherrell Memorial Chapel with Robert Gordon and Chaplain Tom Livengood officiating. Interment will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Milledgeville, Georgia with full military honors. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday evening. Those who wish may sign the online guest registry at www.sherrell-westburyfuneralhome.com.
