Mrs. Rachel Evelyn Price Awtry, of Jackson, GA, passed away Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at Wellstar Spalding Regional Hospital. Evelyn was born on Tuesday, February 13, 1923 in Jackson, GA to the late William Ervin Price and the late Annie Durham Minton Price. She was of the Baptist faith. Evelyn loved to cook, and everyone loved her cooking. She was an avid crossword puzzle player. Evelyn was very knowledgeable of Butts County and its history. She was preceded in death by her son, James L. "Jimmy" Awtry; daughter, Barbara Young; grandson, Ryan Awtry; granddaughters, Amy Waller and Missy Young.

Evelyn is survived by her children and their spouses, Myrna and Ricky NeSmith, David Awtry, John and Susan Awtry, Kay and Davis Wells; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; brother, Walter Price; daughter-in-law, Toni Awtry; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mrs. Evelyn Awtry will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 3, 2017 in Sherrell Memorial Chapel with Reverend Nathan Dorsey officiating. Interment will follow in Jackson City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening.
