Lykins
February 19, 1920 – January 16, 2010
Mr. George Eldridge Lykins of Gainesville, formerly of Cleveland and Barnesville, died Saturday, January 16, 2010. He was preceded in death by his wife Lucy Croom Lykins and his son Reagan Roland Lykins. George Lykins was a graduate of Texas A&M University. He worked as an electrical engineer with General Electric Company and retired at age 62. He was a pilot with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and flew B-24's. He was a Mason and Shriner, and had previously served as a County Commissioner with Lamar County.
He is survived by his sons Dr. Lawrence Edward Lykins and wife Pat and Dr. Jay Arnold Lykins and wife Lynn. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and three step-grandchildren: Lawrence Lykins, Jr. and wife Dr. Shay Lykins, Melissa Saunders and husband Commander Anthony Saunders, USN, Elizabeth, Matthew and Patrick Lykins, Mary Lee Sonke and husband Dan, Jason Lykins and wife Laura, Amy Lykins, Mary Margaret Shealy, Andrew Shealy and wife Julia and Katherine Smith. Eight great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral Services for Mr. George Lykins will be conducted from the Graveside on Friday, January 22, 2010 at 2 O'Clock in Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Williams Funeral Home on Friday afternoon (1-22-10) from 12:30pm until 1:30pm.
