Obituary

Harold Emerson “Doc” McMichael, 84, of Jackson, Georgia, passed away in the early morning hours Monday, June 1, 2026.

Doc was born on Sunday, August 31, 1941, in Jackson, Georgia to the late James Madison McMichael and the late Bessie Ophelia Cook McMichael. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his grandson, Emmett Scott McMichael; sister, Jane McMichael Saunders; brother, Thomas Jefferson McMichael.

Doc lived a full life of community service personally and professionally. He served proudly in the Georgia National Guard and was a lifelong member and leader in Stark Methodist Church. Doc retired from the USDA where he worked as a soil conservationist and later served the city of Jackson for 16 years, 1998 until 2013, as city councilman.

Doc is survived by his loving wife, Dottie S. McMichael; sons and daughters-in-laws, Steve and Meri McMichael, Scott and Rhonda McMichael; grandchildren, Brock, Drayton, Blake, Malone, Delaney, and Kellan; many precious nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.

A memorial service for Mr. Doc will be held on Friday, June 5, 2026, at 11:00 A.M. at Stark Methodist Church with Pastor Bob Wooten officiating. Inurnment will follow the service at Jackson City Cemetery Columbarium. Friends may visit with the family at Sherrill-Westbury Funeral Home on Thursday, June 4, 2026, from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Stark Methodist Church, 1097 Halls Bridge Road, Jackson, Georgia 30233.
