Mrs. Irene Opal Layne, age 94, of Griffin, GA, died Thursday, January 13, 2011 at College Manor in Griffin. She was born March 9, 1916 in Springfield , Ohio to the late Benson and Bertha Snapp Smith. She was a wonderful lady and loved very much by her family. She loved needle point, cooking and baking. Mrs. Layne is survived by two daughters, Judith A. Myers and Mary E.Zadesky, both of Griffin; son, John P. Layne, of Kansas City, MO; grandchildren, Larry A. Hughes and Karen Opal Baker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Woodrow Layne, and brother, Ralph Smith. Mrs. Layne will be cremated and no services are planned at this time. Sherrell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
