Obituary

Mr. James Russell Crumbley, Sr. age 83, of Jackson, passed away Saturday, February 20, 2016 at Sylvan Grove Hospital. He was born on Sunday, September 4, 1932 in McDonough, Georgia to the late Troy and Essie Bailey Crumbley. Mr. Crumbley was preceded in death by a son, Andy Crumbley and his four brothers. He was a proud Veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean Conflict. Russell was a former chief deputy in Butts County who served under 3 former Sheriffs. Later he worked as a general grading contractor. He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family especially his great-grandchildren.


Mr. Crumbley is survived by his wife of 63 years, Barbara Jones Crumbley; son and daughter-in-law, Russ and Rhonda Crumbley; grandchildren, Brooke and Wade Stroud, Erin and Brad Downing; great-grandchildren, Sydney, Ridge, and Sarah Ellen Stroud, Barrett and Brock Downing; sister, Mary Jo Hundley of Wilmington, NC; in-laws, Betty Dover, Steve and Judy Jones, Bill and Martha Jones; several nieces and nephews.


Funeral services for Mr. Russell Crumbley will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, February 24, 2016 in the Sherrell Memorial Chapel with Dr. Benny Tate and Pastor Rick Moncrief officiating. Interment will follow in Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery with Dr. Lane Sanders officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 P.M. and at other times at the home of Russ and Rhonda Crumbley. Flowers will be accepted, however those desiring may make a contribution to Macedonia Baptist Church "Live the Vision", 151 Macedonia Church Road, Jackson, GA 30233 in memory of Russell Crumbley, Sr. Those who wish may sign the online guest registry at www.sherrell-westburyfh.com.
