Obituary

Mr. James Ronald Sweatman, "Jim," passed away on Thursday, February 3, 2022.

Jim was born on Thursday, October 2, 1941, in Opelika, Alabama, to the late Clarence Garfield Sweatman, and Nola Rhodes Sweatman. He is preceded in death by his brother, C. G. Sweatman; nephews, Alan Allgood, and Michael Sweatman; great-grandson, Brantley Horn; son-in-law, Paul Elsasser.

Jim treasured his family. It didn't matter if you were blood-kin, or distant kin, he always had a heart for those closest to him. Jim was a giving person if there ever was one. He was one of those that would give the shirt off his back whether you wanted it or not. If you were around Jim for any period of time, you may be subject to his favorite form of love: picking. A bad day was quickly turned into a good one when you visited him on Mickey Street.

Jim also loved his country; so much, that he honorably served in the United States Marine Corps in the early sixties. This country, and all those that enjoy its freedoms are thankful for his service. Jim loved to travel, especially to the casino, or to his favorite mountain get-away. He will always be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years, Alma Sweatman; children, Cathy Horn (Garold), Shane Sweatman, David Sweatman, Serina Hamlin (Ken), and Amy Handley (Mike); eleven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; siblings, Bill Sweatman, Mike Sweatman, and Debbie Allgood (Jimmy); a host of extended family also survive.

A funeral service for Mr. James Ronald Sweatman will be held on Monday, February 7, 2022 at 2:00 P.M. at Bethany Baptist Church in Bolingbroke with Mr. Larry Goodwin officiating. The family will greet friends and loved ones one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens in Macon at 4:00 P.M.
