September 15, 1927 – December 6, 2006
Mr. James A. Williams, of Barnesville, passed away Wednesday, December 6, 2006 as a result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. A native of Butts County, GA, Mr. Williams was the founder of Williams Funeral Homes in Milledgeville, GA, Gordon, GA, and Barnesville, GA. Son of the late Mr. William Oscar Williams and the late Mrs. Clara Susan Thaxton Williams, he was a Korean War Veteran, having served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Williams has been a Funeral Director since 1952, having started 7 successful funeral homes in his career. His son, Rick, now owns the Williams Funeral Home & Crematory in Milledgeville, and his daughter, Brenda, now owns the Williams White Columns Funeral Home in Gordon. He had been a Member of The Lamar County Lion's Club, Rotary Club International, & The Kiwanis Club. He was a member of the National Funeral Director's Association and the Georgia Funeral Director's Association. Mr. Williams was a Past Worshipful Master of the Masonic Lodge F. & A. M. in Gordon, GA, and was a Past Lamar County Commissioner.
Survivors include: His Wife - Blanche Heayberd Williams of Barnesville ; 1 Son and Daughter-in-law - Rick (& Donna) Williams of Milledgeville ; 2 Daughters and son-in- law - Susan (& Billy) Hester of Gordon & Brenda Williams of Gordon ; 1 Step-son - Tick (& Allison) Heayberd of Milledgeville ; 4 Step-Daughters - Lori Heayberd of Milledgeville ; Yvette (& Bob) MacGregor of Punxatawnie, PA; Susan (& Calvin) Pope of Alaska ; Patty Rushin of Milledgeville ; 1 Sister - Julia Williams Torbert of Barnesville ; A large number of Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, Nieces, Nephews, & other relatives.
Services for Mr. James A. Williams will include a visitation on Saturday, December 9, 2006 from 1pm until 4pm, followed by a Celebration of Life at 4:00pm in the First
Baptist Church in Barnesville.
A second visitation will be held Sunday, December 10, 2006 from 2pm until 5pm at Williams Funeral Home & Crematory in Milledgeville. Funeral Services will be conducted Monday, December 11, 2006 at 2:00pm in the First United Methodist Church in Milledgeville with interment to follow in Heritage Memorial Park in Milledgeville.
Those who wish may make Memorial Contributions to The Georgia Sheriff's Youth Home, to the Masonic Children's Home, or to the Donor's Favorite Charity.
