Jean Weatherly Compton, age 97 of Barnesville passed away Monday, October 6, 2025 surrounded by her loving family.
Jean was born in Pike County on Tuesday, May 8, 1928 to the late John Henry Weatherly and Bessie Allen Weatherly. She was born 5th in line to 9 children. She attended school in Pike County where she graduated with the class of 1945. After graduating, she worked at the canning factory in Meansville. She left there to work for the William Carter Company in Thomaston. Jean later transferred to Carters in Barnesville after marrying Russell Compton in 1952 and continued to work for Carters for a total of 45 years until her retirement. Jean loved to grow a vegetable garden every summer and would gladly share her vegetables with her friends and family. Jean loved her family very much and loved her God Jehovah foremost. She was a member of the Jehovah Witness faith and attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witness in Barnesville. She was a very kind person and was known to try and help a friend in need if she was able.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Russell J. Compton, her grandson Jacob McCard and all 8 of her siblings and their spouses, Sarah Weatherly, Evelyn W. Tyus (Louis), Alma W. Forehand (M.L.), Grady Weatherly (Dora), Allen Weatherly (Ellie), Byron Weatherly (Dee), Dixie Hawkins(Bill) and Madge Cowan (Luther).
She is survived by her children; Phillip Compton (Diane), Gwen C. Moore (Jeff), grandchildren; Tangi Compton, Jeremy Compton (Jennifer), Jadestein Moore, Jenna M. Dunaway (Bruce), Jayla M. Hodges (Justin), Lee McCard (Tasha), great-grandchildren; Anna Jane Compton, Ava Dunaway, Hayden League, Isabella Hodges, Ellie Kate Moore, Jordan Holley, Chase McCard along with numerous extended family members and friends.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2025 from 11 A.M. to 1 P.M. at Williams-Westbury Funeral Home. Following the visitation, she will be laid to rest at Lamar Memory Gardens .
