Mr. Jimmy "Jim" Lee Smith, age 82, of Jackson, Georgia, passed away Saturday, February 14, 2026, at his home following a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis.
He was surrounded by loved ones including his devoted wife, Lynda Snyder Smith, to whom he was married for over twenty-five years. He is also survived by his sister, Kathy Smith; son, Casey Smith (Debbie); grandson, Jordan Smith (Olivia); granddaughter, Rain Smith; niece, Lisa Leverett; many other nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Margie and Richard "Buster" Smith; sister, Sue Cross; and daughter, Aimee Smith.
Jim was a member of Jackson United Methodist Church and active in his community, where he served as member, president, and chairman of the board of his homeowners' association. He was a deep-sea diver in the US Navy that was followed by a thirty-five-year career in law enforcement. He represented the Atlanta Police Department as an active member of the Buckhead Business Association. Jim was a Master Mason, a Scottish Rite Mason and a Shriner. He belonged to Yaarab Temple of Atlanta and was once active in the Potentates' Motorcycle Unit. Jim was very proud of all of his work with the Masonic Bodies.
A Celebration of Life for Mr. Jimmy Smith will be held on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at 4:00 P.M. at Jackson United Methodist Church, 409 East 3rd Street, Jackson, Georgia 30233 with Reverend Pamela Johnston and Reverend Owen Skinner officiating. Friends may visit the family two hours prior to the service at the church. Interment will take place on Friday, February 20, 2026, at 3:00 P.M. at Berry Highland Memorial in Knoxville, Tennessee.
