Obituary

Julia Skelton Rumble, 88, of Asheville, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Tuesday December 27, 2022.

Julia was born on May 22, 1934, in Meridian, Mississippi, to the late Horace Skelton and Ludie Winstead Skelton. Her lifelong love of music began as a young child with piano lessons provided by her grandmother and culminated in a Master's Degree in Music, with honors, from the Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford. For many years Julia was in high demand as a pipe organist in many churches when the family lived in Simsbury, Connecticut.  Julia loved learning and went back to school to become a paralegal after her children were all grown. She loved reading great books, traveling with her husband, Wayne, and trying new things like knitting, hooking rugs, and bread baking. In 2001, Julia and Wayne retired to Asheville, North Carolina, where she enjoyed visiting artists' studios and local galleries.

Julia was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Robert A. Skelton, and son, Gregg Rumble.  She is survived by her beloved husband of over 61 years, Wayne Rumble of Asheville, North Carolina; son, Brennen Rumble (Liz) of York, Maine; daughter, Lisa Cannon of Russellville, Arkansas; son, Scott Rumble (Nikki) of Trussville, Alabama; and granddaughters Sarah, Emily, Jenna, Olivia, and Abigail.

A memorial service will be held at Williams-Westbury Funeral Home in Barnesville, Georgia, on January 14, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., followed by a short graveside ceremony at Greenwood Cemetery where she will be laid to rest beside her much-loved mother-in-law, Margaret Kell Rumble, who first introduced her to Wayne in Atlanta in 1960.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions can be made in Julia Rumble's memory to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
