Obituary

Dr. Kermit E. Parsons (Doc, Sonny) passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 18, 2025, surrounded by loved ones.

Doc was born Sunday, December 15, 1929. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Retha Conner Parsons; sisters, Wanema Brooks and Virgina Rahl. He is survived by daughters, Sandy Windom and Kim Parsons; son, Kep Parsons; grandchildren, Chris Windom, Amie Windom, Kristen Summerour, and Kelly Gazzo; as well as 5 great grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; sister, Bobbie Watson of Florida; and many nieces and nephews.

Some knew him as the Painless Dentist, others as MacGyver. He was always there to lend a hand or give some solid advice. Doc was an intelligent, kind, and caring father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend.

Having been born and raised in West Virgina he learned the grass root lessons of life. He attended Marshall University and University of Louisville Dental School. He was a combat veteran in the Air Force during the Korean War. After military and school, he moved the family to Conyers, Georgia, opened his practice in 1959, and retired to Jackson Lake in 1996. He and Retha always enjoyed camping all around the country but loved the Blue Ridge Mountains. They were both music lovers as well and entertained many friends and acquaintances at the lake and in their travels while he played guitar, and they both sang. He enjoyed the water, boating, and skiing.

Doc's body will be cremated and a memorial service celebrating his life will be announced later.
