Larry Alan Watson was a father, grandfather, brother, and friend who believed in helping others and taking the time to teach. He passed away on October 18, 2026, at the age of 61.
Born in Hollywood, Florida, on August 11, 1965, Larry moved to Forest Park, Georgia, when he was young. He graduated from Forest Park High School, became a plumber, and made his home in Clayton and Henry counties throughout his adult life. Larry was extremely smart, with a gift of understanding how things worked and the patience to explain them to someone else. Whether sharing his plumbing knowledge or teaching his children to fish, he was always willing to stop and help someone learn.
He lived with integrity and was the kind of person who would do anything for anyone. On July 3, 1993, Larry suffered an injury that left him paralyzed from the chest down. In the years that followed, he continued to co-parent his children, earned his master plumber’s license, and found ways to keep fishing and hunting—two of his favorite things. One of those ways was choosing a home in Jonesboro with a lake in the neighborhood. There, he could teach his children to fish without having to drive. That decision reflected the father he was, finding a way to be present, sharing what he loved, and making memories with his children.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Roberta Watson-McDaniel and James Watson Jr. He leaves behind his son, Codi Watson, and his wife, Geralnique; daughter, Jessica Watson, and her husband, Charlie; grandchildren, Leah, Carter, Ella, Noah, Eli, and Anna; brother, Jody Watson; sister, Beth Watson; and nephews, Shawn, Brandon, and Benjamin. He is also survived by his former wife and longtime friend, Alice, as well as Kayla and her children, Kailer and Ezra, with whom he shared a special bond.
Family and friends will gather for a visitation to celebrate Larry’s life and remember him with stories and fellowship on Saturday, October 31, 2026, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Sherrell-Westbury Funeral Home.
