Lawrence W. “Larry” Greene, 82, of Barnesville, Georgia, passed away on September 11, 2026. He was born in Chicago, Illinois, on February 24, 1944, to Lorraine (Rempert) Greene and Edward F. Greene.

Larry was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and spending time on the water. He especially enjoyed sharing those activities with his family and, when they were younger, his grandchildren. He took them camping, fishing, and tubing and was always willing to bend the rules a little when it came to being a grandfather. His grandchildren still remember his tradition of giving them Skittles and milk for breakfast, despite their parents’ objections.

Larry had a varied and accomplished career. His work included PepsiCo, Inc., serving as a lieutenant with the Rosemont Police Department in Rosemont, Illinois, and serving as a federal agent with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), assigned to O’Hare International Airport. He later served as a regional manager and Director of Education and Leadership Training for Moose International. Through his work with the Moose, Larry earned the Pilgrim Degree of Merit, the highest degree of the Loyal Order of Moose. Most recently, he worked as a subcontracted trainer for the TIPs management program.

For many years, Larry also combined his entrepreneurial spirit with his love of boating and good food. During the summers, he owned and operated Pups Ahoy, a traveling Chicago-style hot dog stand on a pontoon boat on Lake Koshkonong in south-central Wisconsin. He served Chicago-style hot dogs to boaters around the lake, creating a business and summer pastime that was distinctly his own.

Larry is survived by his wife of nearly 34 years, Harriette Greene; daughter, Deanna (Victor) Gonzalez; sons, Steven (Terri) Greene and David Greene; stepdaughter, Tara (Drew) Hettich; grandchildren, Anya (Ryan) Hummel, Kirkland (Kaylee) Hettich, Mackenzie Greene, Alexandra (Connor) Bearer, James Greene, and Kristina Greene; great-grandchildren, Jack Hummel, Emme Hummel, Ellie Hettich, and Raelynn Bearer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lorraine Greene and Edward F. Greene; his late wife, Judith (Krzyzowski) Greene; and his son, William L. Greene (The Good One).

Larry will be remembered for his years of public service, his commitment to education and leadership, his love of the outdoors, his entrepreneurial spirit, and the many adventures he shared with his family and friends.
