Mrs. Mary Joyce Smith, age 90, of North Augusta, South Carolina, passed away on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at Piedmont Augusta Hospital.

Joyce was born on March 24, 1933, in Thomaston, Georgia to the late W.R. and the late Mittye Barnes. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Parry Smith and brother, Gene Barnes. Joyce loved sports, such as tennis, golf, and bowling. She celebrated her 90th birthday by playing golf with her grandsons and attending the Masters. She enjoyed dancing, playing cards, volunteering, and she adored animals. Above all, Joyce loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was excited about becoming a great grandmother to Andrew Henry Marsh.

Joyce is survived by her daughters, Lynne Girard (Bob), Linda Marsh (Greg), and Anna Thompson (Lee); grandchildren, Michael Stephens, Andrew Marsh (Catie), Emily Marsh, Alex Marsh (Annalee), Dalton Thompson, Pierson Thompson, Annabelle Thompson; brother Dick Barnes (Lacy); and several nieces and nephews.

A Graveside Funeral Service for Mrs. Joyce Smith will be held on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. at New Crawley Cemetery with Pastor David Dawson officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the local Humane Society or animal shelter.
