Obituary

Ms. Melba “Sue” Smith Etheridge, age, 94 of Greenville, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 13, 2026, in Easley Alabama.

Sue was born on Monday, November 8, 1937, in, Georgia to the late Robert Glen Smith and the late Christine Lee Smith.

She spent her early years in Barnesville, Georgie, where she grew up and began building the life and relationships that would remain important to her throughout the years. She later made the Greensville, South Carolina area her home, where she lived for the last 27 years of her life.

For the final four years of her life, Sue was a resident of Clemon Heritage Senior Living in Clemson, South Carolina. During her time there. She formed many meaningful friendships with fellow residents and staff. These friendships brought her companionship, joy, and many special memories.

Before retiring, Sue worked for the William Carter Company in Barnesville, Georgia. She was also a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church, where her faith was an important part of her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Glen Smith and Christine Lee Smith; her beloved husband, Robert Maurice Ethridge; her brother, Robert Steve Smith; and her son-in-law, Louis Mann.

Sue is survived by her children, Robert Ethridge and Fonda, and Melba Mann. She leaves behind a loving family that includes her grandchildren, Lindsey Rooks and Jordan; Wade Mann and his wife, Lisa; Jeremy Mann and his wife, Sherri; Greg Mann and his wife, Lea; and Bryan Mann and his wife, Niki, as well as numerous great-grandchildren.

Sue will be membered most of all for her love of family. The friendships she cherished, and the memories she created throughout her 88 years. Her life touched many people, and she will be deeply missed by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, friends, and the many people who had the privilege of knowing her. 

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made to the American Cancer Society in Sue’s memory.

A Celebration of Life for Ms. Sue Ethridge will be held Saturday, August 22, 2026, 1:00 P.M.,  at Church of God Prophecy 1016 Overlook Drive Seneca, South Carolina 29678.
