Obituary

Mr. Melvin "Dana" Washington, age 70, of Barnesville, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, January 31, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.



Dana was born on Sunday, August 7, 1955, in Barnesville, Georgia, to the late Melvin Ernest Washington and the late Ruth Walker Washington. Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his sister, Eileen Washington.



Dana graduated from Lamar County High School in 1973. He attended Griffin-Spalding County Area Vocational Technical School where he graduated on September 24, 1973. He received the Meritorious Performance in Carpentry Outstanding School Award Class of '73.



For ten years Dana was a member of The Masonic 6th District of Georgia, Pinta Lodge No. 88. Dana was a Past Master of the Lodge in 2023 and was The Mason of the Year in 2025.



Dana is survived by his girlfriend of 8 years, Phyllis McLean; sister and brother-in-law, Edith and Dewitt Stevens, several extended family members.



A Graveside Service for Mr. Melvin Dana Washington will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, February 6, 2026, in Milner Baptist Church Cemetery, with Reverend Jason Teal and Reverend Garth Forester officiating.  Friends may visit the family on Friday, February 6, 2026, at Milner Baptist Church from 1:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M.
