Mr. Philip Cushing "Grumpy" Whitney, age 97, of Barnesville, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, March 1, 2022, at Sacred Journey Hospice of Newnan.
Grumpy was born on Wednesday, September 24, 1924, in Boston, Massachusetts, to the late Richard Cushing Whitney and Alice May Cronk Whitney. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Phoebe Louella Whitney, daughter; Connie Whitney, grandson; Erik Caldwell. Grumpy proudly served his county in the United States Army in World War II. He was member of Barnesville First United Methodist Church. Grumpy was a member of the Lamar County Republican Club as well as a member of the Lamar County VFW.
Grumpy is survived by daughters and their spouses, Martha & Doug Caldwell, Carol & Greg Westbury, grandchildren, and their spouses; Chris & Katie Caldwell, Torrey & Dustin Lovett, Mitchell & Krista Westbury, David & Meghan Westbury, Aaron Westbury, as well as ten great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Philip Cushing "Grumpy" Whitney will be held on Sunday, March 6, 2022, at 2:00 P.M. in Breedlove Memorial Chapel with Pastor Cyndi McDonald officiating. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service in Greenwood Cemetery.
