"World Famous" Ricky Lamar Johnson, Sr., age 68, of Jackson, GA, passed away Friday, April 4, 2014 at his residence. He was born on December 21, 1945 to Calvin Lamar Johnson and the late Jewell Tomlin Johnson. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Denae Johnson Walker.
"World Famous" Ricky proudly served in the United States Air Force in Vietnam. He was a Sergeant in the 13th Tactical Fighter Squadron from 1965 until 1969. "World Famous" Ricky served on the advisory committee for the Jackson Veterans Memorial Park. "World Famous" Ricky made an accomplishment in his life that inspired family, friends, and strangers. After fighting his own battle with alcoholism, he became a sponsor in Alcoholics Anonymous and spent a number of years counseling others through their battles. He was proud of each success made in this area. He was a member of the Jackson First Baptist Church.
"World Famous" Ricky is survived by his wife, Brenda Young Johnson; children and their spouses, Lisa Johnson Weaver and David, and Ricky "P-Nut" Lamar Johnson, Jr. and Crystal; grandchildren, Garrett Washington, Whitney Walker, Bryce Porterfield, Keatin Weaver, Brooke Porterfield, Lanie Johnson, Brylie Johnson, and Kace Johnson; father, Calvin Lamar Johnson.
Funeral services for "World Famous" Ricky Johnson will be held at 1:00 P.M. Sunday, April 6, 2014 at Sherrell Memorial Chapel with Reverend Mike Burge officiating. Interment will follow in the Jackson City Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Saturday evening. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Jackson Veterans Memorial Park, P.O. Box 838, Jackson, GA 30233 in memory of Ricky Lamar Johnson, Sr. Those who wish may sign the on-line registry at www.sherrell-westburyfh.com.
